The IoT Platforms RADAR
The PAC RADAR by Pierre Audoin Consultants (PAC) is an effective tool for the holistic evaluation and visual positioning of ICT services providers on local markets.
The world of IoT platforms can be a confusing place for ICT and business decision-makers who are trying to make the best choice of IoT platform for their company. While we at PAC understand that there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ platform currently available, we know that there are some outstanding IoT platforms that focus on specific use cases.
PAC/CXP Group conducted an independent, thorough assessment of the IoT platforms market in Europe and ranked its players across its sub-segments, screening 120 platforms and evaluating 43 of them in 7 different segments:

PAC RADAR IoT Platforms in Europe 2018

Methodology & Segmentation
All providers are evaluated using PAC’s proven methodology, which is based on personal face-to-face interviews and a detailed self-disclosure. PAC also evaluates and positions those providers in the PAC RADAR that did not wish to participate in the self-disclosure process.
After the evaluation of the pre-defined criteria, each supplier’s position is plotted in the PAC RADAR. All criteria are classified by clusters and can all be attributed to the “Competence” and “Market Strength” main clusters.
Within the PAC RADAR, the following applies: The closer a company is to the top right corner, the closer they are to meeting customers’ requirements! The provider evaluation, including a market description and short company profiles, is published as a report.
None of the IoT platforms available in the market today cover all functions around all kinds of needs. Existing IoT platforms focus on specific use cases or on specific device groups. Therefore, each Platform RADAR emphasizes one specific use case or device group.
PAC is going to evaluate the providers of IoT platforms in Europe in seven different PAC RADAR segments, which are dedicated to specific use cases:
Horizontal IoT Platforms
-
IoT platforms for device management enable SW updates for device fleets and/or remote control of devices,
-
IoT platforms for rapid application deployment allow data visualization via drag & drop dashboards and event processing,
-
IoT platforms for analytics application enable the development of more complex IoT applications such as predictive maintenance,
-
IoT platforms for device development allow the communication of low-power devices with embedded SW via LPWAN.
Vertical IoT Platforms
-
Industrial IoT platforms cover all kinds of use cases around the digital factory,
-
IoT platforms for vehicles cover all kinds of use cases around SIM-connected vehicle fleets,
-
IoT platforms for smart cities cover all kinds of use cases around the efficient use of city infrastructures.
